Brandon Nimmo hit a grand slam and Francisco Lindor homered and drove in three runs, powering the Mets to a 7-2 win over the Brewers in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday night, snapping the Mets’ four-game losing streak.
With two outs in the second inning Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio drew back-to-back walks, followed by an infield single by Hayden Senger. Nimmo, back in the top spot in the order homered to right, his 16th blast of the season, to give the Mets the early lead.
Lindor followed with a solo shot and he later added an RBI single in the sixth and a run-scoring double in the eighth.
Huascar Brazoban was the opener and unlike most of his outings here recently, he did not allow a run. Blade Tidwell was the bulk inning guy in the game and he put up four scoreless innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Tidwell finished with 3 ER in 4.1 IP and picked up his first win in the majors.
The Mets used four more relievers to nail down the win, with Edwin Diaz getting four outs to record his first save in ages and the 17th one of the season.
In the opener, the Mets held a 2-1 lead but a big inning by the Brewers in the sixth turned it into a laugher, with the Brewers winning, 7-2. Reed Garrett gave up an RBI double and a grand slam in the fateful sixth inning.
Has Garrett just had too much work? Three weeks on the dl (15 day transaction) will possibly offer a reset?
Gut Reaction : game #1 - Garrett imploded. Game #2 - Nimmo and Lindor exploded.
Holmes at 90 pitches could have pitch more. Tidwell barely survived.
