Wednesday catch-all thread (2/19/25)
Please use this thread all week to discuss any Mets-specific topic you wish.
The Mets begin Grapefruit League play this Saturday, when they host the Astros in a 1:00 p.m. game which will be broadcast on SNY. It will be our first chance to see Juan Soto in a game wearing a Mets uniform. Anyone interested in a Game Chatter? If at least a couple of you say yes in the comments section, we’ll have one.
And while we’re at it - how should we handle Game Chatters and recaps this year? In the past we would have both a Game Chatter thread and a recap at WordPress. But I’m a little hesitant to have both of those things here at Substack. The last thing I want to do is spam your Inbox.
If you remember how to get to the chatters - click on the talk icon on the upper right - do we need to have an “article” every day with a link to it? And the plan is still to do a recap after the game. Is getting two emails a day - one for article, one for recap - from us okay?
Let me know what you think. Thanks - Brian

Nice article in The Athletic today about how the Mets are using their pitching lab to help the hitters, too. Specific examples cited were the discovery of how Jeff McNeil’s hips “were in a really bad spot,” and how force plates helped Brandon Nimmo cut down on his leg kick.

I got a lot from the game chatters. I was trying to get away from the cesspool of Twitter, and it was cool to be in a room with like minded Mets fans with reactions
I find the live chats to be fun and if we need to choose between the two, I'd would rather have that then the Gut Reaction although it is also fun to read, especially if you were not able to catch the game. I watch too many games as it is but I'm cool with that.
Since its an open Wednesday - here are some fun Met trivia facts to ponder
in the 1960's Jerry Koosman had a 2.34 ERA, the second lowest of any MLB pitcher who threw at least 500 innings that decade (Hoyt Wilhelm had the lowest)
Jesse Orosco pitched eight seasons with the Mets and is the all time leader in MLB appearances with 1,252. John Franco is third with 1,119
in 1984 Dwight Gooden struck out 276 batters to establish the modern day record for a rookie (Herb Score had 245 in 1955 -and no I was not born yet)
Have a great day everyone
