Wednesday catch-all thread (2/25/26)
Please use this thread all week to discuss any Mets-specific topic you wish.
Courtesy of MLB.com, here’s the list of Mets players who will be in the WBC:
Josh Blum (Israel)
Huascar Brazobán (Dominican Republic)
Alex Carrillo (Mexico)
Jamdrick Cornelia (Netherlands)
Daniel Duarte (Mexico)
Jordan Geber (Israel)
Carlos Guzman (Venezuela)
Clay Holmes (United States)
Daviel Hurtado (Cuba)
Joe Jacques^ (Italy)
Nolan McLean (United States)
Nick Morabito (Italy)
Jose Ramos (Panama)
Benjamin Simon (Israel)
Juan Soto (Dominican Republic)
Robert Stock (Israel)
Mark Vientos (Nicaragua)
Jared Young (Canada)
There are as many players representing Israel (4) as there are the Dominican Republic (2) and the USA (2) combined. Overall, the Mets will have players on the rosters of 11 different countries. Part of me thinks it’s great that baseball has this international showcase. And part of me wishes these guys were in MLB Spring Training, instead.
It’s doubtful that I’ll watch any of the WBC. It was interesting when Daniel Murphy asked Gary Cohen how invested he’d be in the WBC. Cohen replied that his first priority would be Seton Hall basketball (he announces their games) followed by Mets Spring Training and then the WBC.
Cohen has his priorities in order.

I will be checking out your article but back to the WBC for a moment. Can anyone get the picture of Edwin Diaz going down in March of 2023 during a a WBC celebration out of their minds. With Diaz went the Mets season. I would rather see Holmes, McLean, Soto and Vientos getting ready for the job that pays them tons of cash. Why not have this classic in November when the season is over and just play in all warm weather venues? In my opinion, they enter these games without a full spring training and are not ready to play games. I get representing your country, but see no value to running the risk of injury. Just my two cents.
So, I just tracked Jonah Tong's pitches in the 2nd inning. He threw 19 pitches and here's what I have:
Easy ball call - 6
Sw. Strike - 2
Foul - 4
Close Ball - 1
In Play - 2
HBP - 1
Easy Strike - 2
Close Strike - 1
So, of 19 pitches there were 2 that the ump had a close pitch to call.
