Wednesday catch-all thread (6/18/25)
Please use this thread all week to discuss any Mets-specific topic you wish.
Who’s been the Mets’ best non-pitcher this season? Most people would say Pete Alonso and he’s certainly in the running. Francisco Lindor hasn’t been weighed down by a six-week cold stretch, so he’s a contender, too. And Juan Soto has been making a late charge, to put himself in the conversation, as well.
Here’s how Baseball-Reference and FanGraphs see it:
Alonso - 2.9 rWAR, 2.6 fWAR
Soto — 2.9 rWAR, 2.0 fWAR
Lindor - 2.6 rWAR, 2.9 fWAR
Often times, the difference in the WAR totals for hitters can be explained in large part in how the two systems value defense. And the Statcast measures really are offended by Soto’s play in the field. He has a (-6) OAA and FRV. Usually Alonso faces a huge deficit with his fielding, compared to other top hitters. But Soto’s not making up much ground on defense, at least so far.

We had a pretty lively Game Chatter last night and my expectation is that it will be similar tonight, too. If you’re a new subscriber - or just someone who’s yet to join us - you can access the chatter by clicking on the talk icon, which is the middle of the three icons on the top right. That will take you to a list of all of the chatters, with the most-recent one on the bottom. Here’s the direct link to tonight’s chatter:
Just click on “Leave a reply” and it will take you there. Hope to chat with a bunch of you tonight!
Hoping for the Mets to get back on track and win tonight. Time for the bats to come alive.
Random topic so it ends up here. Gary mentioned that the Braves are starting some 20 yr old named Fuentes against the Marlins. I looked up his stats. He had 100 IP in 2023-24 in low A without distinction. This year 13 IP in A+, 21 more in AA, 5 in AAA and now he’s in the show.
