Wednesday catch-all thread (6/25/25)
Please use this thread all week to discuss any Mets-specific topic you wish.
It seems like we get regular updates on the health of Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga. As those two are likely the team’s best pitchers, it’s good to get them, especially when they’re positive. But it makes the absence of updates for another pitcher stand out even more. How many updates have we had on Tylor Megill? Perhaps there’s been one or two that I missed.
A trip to RotoWire.com - which gives updates on all somewhat-relevant players for fantasy purposes - shows nothing since June 17, when he was initially placed on the IL. Allegedly, there was no structural damage, only inflammation in his right elbow.
Just like it was bad for the Mets to have their first down point of the season just when they were playing the Braves and Phillies, it was bad for Megill to get injured just when Frankie Montas and (hopefully) Manaea return from the IL. It’s possible that there will be no room at the inn when Megill is ready to return to the rotation.
No one will confuse me with a Megill fan. It’s just that you want a player to have a shot to succeed. And while Megill had that shot this year, he took advantage of it, even if it was in a Jekyll-and-Hyde, Megill-type of way. He has a 3.95 ERA and a 3.37 FIP, with an 11.1 K/9 - the top mark among starters on the team.
What happens to Megill now?

Another day and another chance to win a game. Holmes against Fuentes works in our favor only if the Mets hit the dam ball. Thanks to the Astros for beating the Phillies 1-0 yesterday to keep the Mets 1.5 games behind.
Megill is better than Blackburn and similar to Canning. If the Mets were at full staff he would be the seventh option for the rotation. He has a minor league option and is a free agent in 2028. If Manaea gets back then they shouldn't send Megill down but instead used him as a muti-inning reliever so that this way they wouldn't burn his minor option this year. His 11.9 K/9 and 0.8 HR/9 would be valuable in the middle innings.
