Wednesday catch-all thread (7/8/26)
Please use this thread all week to discuss any Mets-specific topic you wish.
It’s been a year to forget for Brett Baty. From losing his spot at third base, to bouncing all over the field in an attempt to get playing time, to not hitting for three months. It’s just not how it seemed like it was going to work out after his solid end to the 2025 season.
Yet Baty has been better over the last week. No, we shouldn’t be doing jumping jacks over a 29-PA sample. But you’ve got to start somewhere. Thru games of June 29, Baty had a .585 OPS. However, in his last seven games, Baty is slashing 308/.310/.462 for a .772 OPS.
This has come while he gets regular playing time at second base. Could be nothing more than a coincidence. But as a card-carrying member of the Marcus Semien must ride the pine club - I’m going to latch onto any news that makes that more likely. Previously, it was A.J. Ewing taking balls at second and now it’s Baty starting to come around with the bat.
Keep those hits coming, Baty!

In continuum, MLBTR is telling me that the Mets are bringing up Dan Hammer, who was a Rule 5 AA player from the Rays organization. Seriously? Stearns is a shitty GM.
Also, the Brewers’ Brandon Woodruff is getting a second opinion on his right shoulder injury… do they want Peralta back?
Read a humorous piece in The Athletic telling us how Semien had a hip pointer since early May and played through it. His defense has suffered because of this and his offense was at its worst ever. Maybe the guy was really hurting and tried to play through it, but…
A quick AI check tells me that this mostly football injury (that’s where I’ve always heard about it) is a bruising of the outer edge of the hip bone due to contact and only in severe cases would you need 4-6 weeks. How badly did Semien get hurt and how?
I still think he was told that he was being benched so he got hurt until after the deadline. I’m starting to understand how Corey Seager couldn’t put up with him anymore. Wally Pipp him and wish him well finding another job.
