Alonso looks like he’s really come to the season more mature, more serious, and definitely more productive. He keeps taking quality ABs regularly going 5+ pitches and seriously cutting down on the outside chase. It’s fantastic. As a result, he is going to see more quality pitches. Maybe hitting 3 hole is a benefit too. The fact is the Lindor Soto Alonso Nimmo order really is amazing.

Gut Reaction:Garrett had a clutch performance in the sixth inning by striking out a batter with the tying runs at second and third with the game was still in doubt. This sputtering offense finally attacked on three more runs in the bottom of the inning. The bullpen close the door and complimented Megill's strong effort and recorded a team shutout. It was a solid win.

Hats off to Megill for becoming more consistent and a force on the mound. We have seen flashes, but now those flashes are becoming permanent. Alonso is locked in and looking to ride the wave all year long.

It would be nice to see Megill get at least 18 outs. I'd love to see him be able to consistently get into the 7th or 8th inning.

That said, that was a heck of a five innings for him - I don't want to diminish that fact.

How many pitchers consistently get into the 7th or 8th innings? You’re asking Megill to be an SP1. I don’t believe that’s realistic.

4 hits and 4 walks producing 5 runs is a good thing for a game, but unsustainable. The bats are still slumbering.

I love the fact that the team struck out just once in 8 innings. Keep putting that ball in play!

Another great night by the pen in relief of a starter who essentially did his job. Clutch hitting from the first half of the lineup got some much needed offense with even Lindor starting to do his job at the plate. Kudos to the underrated job Torrens is doing being behind the plate handling the staff, throwing out runners and hitting .263 with an .826 OPS. If Vientos can get going, one through five will carry this team quite far.
