One night after clubbing seven home runs, the Mets’ offense went back into hibernation, mustering just four hits in a 7-1 loss to the Phillies Sunday night in Philadelphia.
Bull, it really depends if the organization feels the player is ready mentally. When Doc Gooden jumped from Lynchburg to Queens, the team felt he could do it. One of my issues is the large amount of prospects that fail in AAA for the Mets and that has never happened to this extent. I truly believe it’s time to clean house there and maybe the organizational heads too. This can’t be a coincidence.
Pitchers have seemed to go there and struggle, but McLean has done OK and Sproat has picked it up lately. On the flip side, hitters seem to rake there (Baty, Mauricio) and then look overmatched in the Show. I dunno, is the ballpark in Syracuse a hitter’s paradise? Then home/away splits would show differences. I can’t imagine that smarter baseball people with a lot more data have considered it all.
Overall, I think the Mets could be more aggressive with their arms and moving players into positions of need. Williams getting continued reps at SS seems pointless to me.
Gut Reaction: Peterson picked an inopportune time to pitch a poor inning especially when first place is on the line. But it happens. What has to be addressed is the bottom of the order. The game had four players below 650 OPS starting. It is hard to mount a comeback with that kind of offense. Why is McNeil sitting? I hope Vientos is activated today and him and McNeil are in the lineup against the Braves. I also hope that they win three of four in this short homestand against the Braves.
Kind of a let down after yesterday. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who thought that the team slump was over. In a different thread, I mentioned how the Braves had raced a 20 yr old pitcher through A+, AA, and AAA and started him vs. the Marlins on Friday. He’ll probably be up against the Mets in the upcoming series. Good write-up here on MLB. I would love it if the Mets let some of their rising arms get a shot like this. https://www.mlb.com/news/didier-fuentes-makes-major-league-debut-in-braves-loss?adobe_mc=TS%3D1750644820%7CMCMID%3D19327355547770355835883085369083664656%7CMCORGID%3DA65F776A5245B01B0A490D44@AdobeOrg&affiliateId=mlbapp-ios_webview_news-index&rsid=mlbios.at.bat.new.implementation

Sitting McNeil made zero sense, esp when he’s had good career numbers vs. Luzardo. That was a real head-scratcher.
