Clearly the pitching lab and efficient analytics has helped this staff. Amazing how an infusion of dollars and the right teachers can positively influence the outcome. Hard for other teams not to envy how much they’ve gotten out of marginal pitching talent.
The article points out that most teams have similar labs but not all teams have a pitching coach who is both a former player and strong communicator of analytics.
Congrats to NL player and rookie of the months Pete Alonso and Luisangel Acuna. Who had that on their opening mo th bingo card.
Thanks for that article and it was good, interesting read. My take-aways:
How much influence did Hefner have on selecting free agents pitchers ? Did he interview them before they were signed? Were they open for change? I think so.
In Harper's article a scout said that the Mets will need more pitching and be looking to add at the trade deadline. I think, because of the Minter injury , a would be good to obtain a setup reliever, preferably left-handed thrower. As for the starting pitching, I don't think so.They still have Manaea, Montas and Blackburn on the IL that could start when their healthy.
Harper's article enlighten me how valuable Hefner and his communication of the pitching lab use.
By all close accounts, Hefner is excellent at what he does. If/when the Met staff slumps some or regresses to mean, I hope Met fans can chill a bit. At this point, Cohen has assembled a real solid group to run the club.
