Clearly Severino went for the payday versus the ring potential and who could blame him? Good luck to him.

I think this sets Manaea's market at 4 years and about $90-92 million. Which I think the Mets should offer, perhaps with a mutual option after the 3rd year.

Man, this is an overpay. Good for him getting that contract. I wondered whether he’d even get a one year deal for the QO price. This will make it a lot more expensive than I thought to bring in some of the other FA pitchers.

I think it’s past time for use to realize that our collective wisdom of worth is undergoing a rapid change. If you ask me, go the 650 for Soto, in 12 years it’ll look like a bargain!

Starters are making gobs more than ever and pitching less. Go figure!

You're so right. It's going to continue this way, and because of that, I think you're right that Soto will look like a bargain in 12 years. However, I do think that in 2 or 3 years the A's are going to be saying "What the hell were we thinking with Severino?!"

Good for Severino. For that kind of cash, I’d pitch in a little league park.

I didn't want him back even before knowing how big the contract was going to be. I wish him the best. Yet somehow it reminds me of an old joke

Aside from money, what's your biggest need?

That money you just put aside

May Severino's great-great grandchildren appreciate the fact that he prioritized money over winning a championship.

It is an overpay and I 'm good that the Mets didn't do it also.

Free Agent starting pitching is ridiculously expensive but obviously the owners can afford it.

The Mets should set their priorities in the draft for pitching. It would be cost effective.

My priorities , Manaea and Flaherty, just got more expensive. They will be overpays also. Maybe it's time to change my priorities. Maybe two other pitchers that have have something to prove would be a better route, like Stearns did with Frankie Montas. The Mets have depth starters in Butto, Blackburn, Megill, Sproat and Tidwell to take that risk.

Why do you care what money Cohen spends Metsernse? Do you think Dodger fans wake up being concerned that they presently are sitting on 1B$ of deferred compensation?
