I have faith in Clay "Sherlock" Holmes to solve the starting issues!

My predictions: 155 IP, 2.85 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 9 K/9, 0.7 HR/9

Like article states, Holmes is a good two pitch pitcher. He has a 97.5 MPH fastball that he seldom throws. I'm confident that he can have success with the first time facing the batting order. The second time will tell if he is a starter. If he succeeds in the third time facing the batting order then he will become a good "starter" that Symborski refers to. I am not that bullish. I thought the signing was for a SP4 Quintana. I don't think he will be as effective as 2024 Quintana but then don't think 2025 Quintana would be as effective as his 2024 version either. Holmes signing is a risk but it was a good risk. With the injury to Montas, Clay and Mets will have plenty of time to see if he is a starter. We know that he is a good relief pitcher.

For the starting pitchers, I kind of like Brian's framework of 150-140-130...100 innings for pitchers one thru six. I am pigeonholing Holmes into pitcher #5 and give him:

110 IP 3.88 ERA 1.320 WHIP 8.0 K/9 0.6 HR/9

I liked this signing from the beginning and think this is one of the pitchers who will benefit from the Mets investment in the pitching lab and its surrounding infrastructure. IP. 125. ERA 3.45. WHIP 1.25. 10K/9. 0.65HR/9

The advantage Holmes has is that he is an established pitcher with less pressure as a starter since he would also be a great addition for the pen. That being said, seems there is plenty of time to stretch him out to be a starter and these days we are lucky to see any starter go more than five. The Mets starters down the stretch did a great job last year going deep into games.

So I’m hoping for a Lugo type transformation especially now down a starter with a Montas out. Was never a Montas fan but did not expect him to be a non factor for 2-3 months.

110 inning pitched, 2.7 ERA, 1.2 whip, 8ks/9, 1.2 HR/9. Looking for a 10-6 record.
