They are supposed to beat the Pirates. Phillies lost so it’s just another game off the schedule or at least that’s my rationale.

The Mets don’t have slump busters: difference makers. Soto is a OBP machine but as we know walks don’t do much. His clutch stat is negative. The rest mostly go with the flow. Nimmo, Taylor, Baty, Torrens…. Not a game changer among them. Then you add Marte, and that’s half the lineup.

The other half of the lineup - the bottom part has been cold as well. Who would have thought that out of the great up and coming Mets Prospects we have heard so much about over the years? Baty, Vientos, Mauricio, Alex Ramirez (released), Francisco Alvarez (in Triple A) - the best of the bunch turned out to be Pete Crow-Armstrong who we dealt for Javier Baez.

This is really painful to watch and unless some big changes are made, or the players who have played poorly suddenly get better, it could be a long late summer. Very disappointing. Pirates are terrible. 18 runs in two games, unacceptable. Not sure what we do. Mets 360, what is the solution. Trade for who and for what? Vientos, Baty, Mauricios trade value not too high. Stearns will make moves but probably not big ones. I would love to see a blockbuster for a young talent. Dont want rentals.

Mike, while there is hope for improvement in the mound when the injured guys get back, there really isn’t any hope for the batters box. The most realistic hope is Vientos to resume being a presence in the lineup, Alonso to move down to #5 where he belongs and for a CF that can hit a little.

As John points out, that Baez trade was complete stupidity and while we hated it the day they made it for a .224 hitting SS, it feels like it will be worse that the Ryan trade, worse than the Otis trade. We are talking Kazmir levels stupidity. When people write how Baez hit .377 in September - after the Mets were pretty much eliminated - it’s like trying to insult our intelligence.

Fear not fellow Met fans, the player’s only meeting has been called. FWIW, it worked last year.
