Siri was so bad when he was healthy that it was a blessing he got injured. I have no interest whatsoever in seeing him back on the roster.
I think the Mets will let Mauricio stay in AAA for at least another month. Maybe longer. People argue that Acuna needs to be getting regular playing time in AAA to develop more, but I'd argue he floundered a bit down there and he has enough of a positive contribution at the major league level in the role he's playing that the Mets will keep him up here. He's getting experience, mentorship, and maturity, even if he won't see 300+ PA. I don't care to see him sent down just to make room for Mauricio or Siri. Let him stay and develop here.
Unfortunately, Stearns has given more than lip service to preferring defensive players. And he's the one who traded for Siri, too. My expectation is that Siri spends the rest of the year with the Mets, even if my hope is that they move on from him ASAP.
In the many Mets related articles that I force myself to read each day, there is a question of whether hitting coach Chavez should be working elsewhere given the team's horrible showing with RISP. The same people calling for his head do note that they were pretty good last year with RISP so something new must be going on. I have long since called for the hitting coach to get more involved and figure out what is plaguing this team. Aren't they watching each at bat? Isn't there hours of video to review showing what the player did when they were going good? Why aren't these established veterans figuring out why they are slumping?
I like what Acuna brings to the table and if he needs to go to the bench and serve as a defensive replacement or come in to steal a base, then he has a place on this team. You are not going to have an all-star at every position. Roster spots are precious and 36-year old Starling Marte simply needs to go. He's hitting .225 with an OPS of .665 with just two HR, 13 RBI, three stolen bases and just eight walks. Eat his salary Mr. Cohen and set him free. Then call up Ronnie Mauricio to help give this offense a shot in the arm. He can DH in Marte's place and as a switch hitter he could become the full-time DH. He has power and speed and yes, like a lot of their players, he strikes out too much.
Pick up your iPhone and say "Siri, good bye." Play McNeil as an extra outfielder when you need to.
And nice reference to Neil Young, someone from my earliest days of enjoying music and I dug additional grooves in my Four Way Street album in college from all the plays.
Siri was not a great signing. THey’ve resurrected several players but this contract was questionable. He may yet show some progress but he hardly warrants a spot on the MLB roster when he returns. But these things have a way of working out.
The song lyric sounded familiar but I had to look it up. I was shocked to see “Welfare Mothers” (Neil Young.) I would not have guessed him in 500 guesses. I have tix to see him at the Hollywood Bowl in September. Saw Joni Mitchell there last fall. After Red Rocks, it’s the best concert venue I’ve seen.
I'm jealous! I've seen Neil twice but if the planets align, I'd definitely see him again. I've wanted to see a show at Red Rocks ever since U2 played there and I became aware of it.
CSNY, Nassau Coliseum, NY 8/15/74. They did three sets, one acoustic sandwich between two electric sets and then an encore. Total of 30 songs and it was a memorable night.
We moved from Staten Island to Denver when I was 10 and I spent my teen years there. I got to enjoy Red Rocks more times than I can remember (quite literally) and most definitely took it for granted. I did not appreciate how uniquely beautiful it is.
I like a bench that gives you the opposite of your starters. If you have poor fielders your bench should have glove guys. If your starters are slow your bench should have speed. That's why Acuna still provides value. I think he's a better hitter than you do.
There's definitely a logic to that and it would be something I'd support if teams carried larger benches. But you essentially have just three reserves after the backup catcher and at least two of those guys have to be able to hit.
If the Mets are comfortable with promoting Mauricio in the near future then I would replaced him for Young. Mendoza has recently been utilizing Acuna properly and he has positive ettect on the games.
Young had his 10 minutes of Mets fame the other day but he is just a journey man. Some fans want to DFA Marte with his 93 OPS+. That would be premature. Marte should have his playing reduced with the emergence of Baty. I rather have Marte, with his veteran presence, than a journey man with no MLB resume as a bench player.

Two hits, a homer and a walk tonight for Mauricio, who played 3B. He's played 5 games at 2B, 6 games at 3B, 2 at SS and 4 at DH.
His last 7 games have been 3 at 2B, 3 at 3B and 1 at DH
