Mauricio’s development and allergy to major league pitching shows he needs more seasoning in the minors. Baty came back with a bang this year; it took Vientos almost a year before he was confident enough to channel his inner “Swaggy V”. Acuña shouldn’t be surprising (his D and speed >>>>> everything, but hitting is whatever). But Alvarez?? I’m baffled by it. His injury might have messed with his head, if I’m to be honest. I do not think he should have been sent down. Probably one of the few things I’ve disagreed with in this front office. Grrr. This losing, heat wave and June swoon is getting to all of us I think
As for Alvarez, sometimes you have to take a step backwards to take multiple steps forward. I'm hoping his stay in the minors is minimal, as Senger really isn't going to help much and Torrens is stretched playing more than twice a week.
Acuna being sent down is overdue, probably even more than Alvarez because at least Alvarez was holding his own behind the plate, save for a few passed balls. We all thought Alvarez might be a 5th or 6th place hitter but he simply is not. We will miss Acuna's speed and his fielding but simply cannot afford another easy out at the end of this lineup. I'd DFA Young and keep Mauricio but then they should have Mauricio taking extra batting practice every single day to figure out why he does not hit as well at this level and why he is now swinging at a lot more bad pitches. Four straight losses to the Braves is disheartening. The team needs reinforcements now and not a month from now. No reason to wait till the deadline to make deals and not try and resolve issues now.
Acuna hitting Syracuse is long overdue. I was definitely making the case that he could maintain a higher BABIP. Not what he was hitting, but something above average. My wishful thinking and Acuna's popgun bat were exposed over the last 100+ PAs. Will he put in the work to improve? That's an open question for me. I'm stuck on Lindor's observation that Acuna was "bored" towards the end of ST. This is when he was competing for a job.
I am hopeful about Alvy, but I wonder also if he's going to put in the work.
They're both young with a lot of talent. I hope they have the maturity and drive.
Honestly, I have similar concerns about Vientos and Baty. I'm of the mindset that 3/4 year of performance does not entitle one to a nickname and an outsize persona. Sorry, Vientos, but you've not earned it yet. And I go bananas every time Baty stares at the ump when a borderline pitch is called a strike. If I were pitching, the next one would knock him on his keister.
I have to stop now cuz I have to chase some kids off of my lawn.
As a greybeard, I'm not fond of a nickname like Swaggy V - regardless of how much success he's had in the majors. He can refer to himself anyway he wants - doesn't mean I have to follow suit. He's Vientos or E5 in my mind...
I guess Young could be replaced by Singleton to shuffle the decks chairs on the Titanic. (Chris' favorite line). Mauricio should be replaced by Vientos. Vientos should play before Baty because are waiting for the past 2.5 years but it like hoping that the check is in a mail. Taylor is playing like a fourth outfielder. Cedric Mullins would be a nice rental because he wouldn't block Williams. Catchers usually don't supply offense. Alvarez has to find his swing and just be average offensively. He is only 23. Be patient.
I dont think Acuna will work out. He is too small and has no power. He is about 6 inches shorter and 35 lighter than his sturdy brother. He needs to be at AAA. Jared Young needs to go. Mauricio should spend the rest of the year in Syracuse. We cant afford to play players who cant hit. Baty seems to be showing again that he cant hit. I think the problem is that we played way above our talent level through May. We are starting to see the results of bargain hunting. Our ace Senga cant stay healthy. We need a number one stud starter like the Braves have in Strider. We need another big bat. If we are honest, this team would have a hard time in the playoffs especially as a wild card. 11 of 12 losses is really painful. Winker is not the answer. Need to start planning on life after Alonso, because he will get more money from another team. Lets gope ge has a few more good streaks this year.

E5 is pretty good.

Singleton was cut. He is back with Houston.
Manaea won’t pitch for 48 days!
