Great analysis of Megill Rob! His transformation started mid season last year and it appears he is hitting his stride. For some who thought he was maybe a number five in the rotation, he has been a solid 2-3 as has most of their starters who have pitched more like front end vs backend starters. I think it hit him last year that he was on borrowed time on this team if he didn’t step up and realize his potential. Big game today against the Nats best starter. It will be interesting when Manaea returns to see which starter either gets sent down or moves to the pen.

Very well thought out research here, Rob :) I’m very much a “stats are important” kind of person, but I’m also a “vibes are good too” when it comes to baseball. And well you’ve just confirmed that my vibes around Megill are correct!

Appreciate it! He's definitely been a contributor to the good vibes around the team so far this season for sure.

Nicely done documenting the changes in Megill!

We've seen him have good stretches previously, only to revert to rotten results. We're all hoping that this time it's different. I'm still a touch bearish with him but will happily change my tune if he still looks good at the end of May.

Tylor worked with his closer brother Trevor over the offseason at Driveline (i think it was driveline, maybe one of the other places) and has been talking constantly about what Mendy has been preaching. Trust your stuff, throw strikes, stop nibbling. It's worked so far. If he can cut down on the walks and give the team an extra 3-6 outs per game, he'll be an all star.

We are seeing the results that Tyler Megill is putting up. Your analysis is telling us how he is doing it. Thanks for the enlightening research. Major League players will adjust with his changes when the scouting reports show his change of approach. His stuff has improved immensely that he should be able to be considered a mid rotation starter as the point. The future results should bear witness to that. I am impressed with Megill and with this fine article.

I am pleasantly surprised with Megill's rise this year, as we've been on the see-saw with him for far too many years. As another commentor noted, the true test for Megill may come when hitters adjust to his new stuff as the season progresses. If he is able to adjust his game enough through a full season to keep hitters guessing, we may just see him surpass all expectations.
