Brian, LOOGY’s were used for one batter; now they need to face multiple hitters but it was the Mets’ pitching situation that kind of forced this unit. Besides, they are not discarding Minter and even last year Young wasn’t a top arm but rather was used to “give a different look”. But, I would be surprised if Nunez wasn’t activated within these next two weeks.
I was kind of envious of the amount of lefties the Padres, Phillies, Dodgers and other good teams have, so as long as the pitchers have promise, I don’t mind having a few.
Sorry, but one more point about the DH: neither of these players is a power hitter and I’m afraid when the good luck runs out of hits falling in consistently, the lack of power production from this position will raise some ire.
Winker's second triple last night in the 8th inning was an absolute bomb that on any other day or night without that really heavy air would have cleared the wall. He certainly thought so as he stood in the batter's box admiring it. I still think that if Winker and Marte are used all year at DH and both stay healthy, they will hit 25 HRs between them. To go with 90 RBI, that is sufficient production from the DH position. Can they do that? Perhaps. Winker's at bats last night sure looked good.
Minter is a good, consistent 8th inning set up man throughout his career. He will break the narrative of recent Met lefty relievers that can retire right-handed batters. The Winker/ Marte platoon at DH can put up a .800+ OPS this year. In spite of the sputtering offense, and the dismal BABIP, they are in the midst of a four-game winning streak! Megill, Brazoban and Kranick are the surprises for me. They are exceeding mine expectations .
