One thing that’s dominated my baseball thoughts here recently is that you shouldn’t always view a player’s production early on based on season-long production.
Great article today with lots to consider. We are always wanting a win each game and want all players firing on all cylinders each time out, even if that concept is unrealistic. Taylor is a good example of some strong streaks and the Mets willingness to weather the slow hitting period because of how he plays CF. Great point on Vientos, then and now. And incredible to see how well the starting staff has done. A little more length would take some pressure off the pen.
With the return of McNeil from the IL and hitting well, Acuna's good play, Vientos and Taylor's offensive revitalization, Marte should have his playing time reduced to a bench player. Last year he had a OPS of .844 against LHP so there is a possibility that he can contribute in that role on the bench as a pinch hitter. This limited role is better for a veteran than a young player that still has minor league options.
And then Marte goes a solid 2 for 2 with a stolen base and looked darn near spry doing it. haha. Looks like Baty is going to get his chance to keep that stat line comparison with Marte going as he's being called up to replace Winker. Methinks Vientos is slated for some additional DH duties with Baty getting some run at 3b.
Id rather have young players getting at bats than Marte. He already has one foot out the door, so lets push him out. I really like your analysis.

Vientos needs to continue to play regularly. Let’s see where he stands on Memorial Day.
