Traditionally, the Memorial Day weekend is the time to evaluate the roster and make some tweaks for the next third of the schedule before the trading deadline is upon us. Taylor is one of players to look at. After a slow start he is trending offensively very well. His defense is above average. Right now he is secure with his position as center fielder. Torrens is playing better than Alvarez. He hits LHP better than Alvarez also. He deserves more playing time therefore a platoon should be instituted. Baty grabbed a lifeline he also improved defensively. In his major league career he has not hit LHP (453 OPS) therefore he shouldn't play against LHP. The right-handed DH is a glaring weak spot against LHP because Vientos should play third base leaving Marte as the DH. Marte is failing at that role and needs to improve before July or the Mets should upgrade. Vientos should be the DH against RHP because he hits them well.

The starting pitching has been a pleasant surprise. Megill is having some recent issues but the injured starters are on the horizon. Minter's and somewhat Young's injuries were a blow to the bullpen. I don't think Castillo or Cabrera are the solution. An upgrade for a LH reliever should be a primary target.

All in all, there aren't many pressing issues for the roster. Stearns has done a good job.

IMHO Tyrone Taylor is a tremendous center fielder. And for that reason I would cut him a lot of slack at the plate.

I feel like Taylor contributes both offensively and defensively and by the end of the year, he’ll be an asset for the team and we’ll wonder why David Stearns felt the need to bring in Jose Siri at all.

I think felt the need is a little strong. Siri is here because they had only 3 OFs without him. He's here because he cost so little that he does not have to start or platoon. His speed, defense, and athleticism are a useful tool to have even if it is coming off of the bench. Especially on a team that is generally lacking in those areas. And when you bring in a player like Siri, its often because your coaches and analysts think they have the key to unlocking his potential. Sometimes they're right, and sometimes they're not. But, again, he cost little enough that its really not a gamble. When Taylor goes after 2026, they'll still have Siri for another year. And we don't know how much longer Nimmo can play the field on a daily basis.

Lastly, there is no commitment. Anytime they need a roster spot for someone better, they can non-tender him.

When Winker and Siri come back, who goes down?

We're still three to six weeks away from that., at a minimum. Between now and then, circumstances could change. Someone else could get injured. A young player could regress. Someone marginal could be performing poorly. Or a trade could surface.

But at the moment, this seems like an easy one: Marte gets dumped and Azocar gets DFA'd.

I am extremely disappointed in Juan Soto and the fact that the New York Mets are paying him so much money and he can’t run and hustle in the field. In the last game of the series against the Yankees he had to run after the ball and he was going half speed. What do we all think about this? is he gonna be another Bobby Bonilla?

Hey Joe - Thanks for subscribing, pledging and commenting!!!

As for Soto, no one is happy with the optics right now and my guess is we'll see a little more hustle - at least offensively - going forward. I can't believe he won't turn things around and hit better. And my guess is that his attitude will be miles better than what we saw with Bonilla.

I have faith in Soto. He is too good and too young too young to not turn it around. Feels like Alonso was a mirage in April. It turned midnight and he turned into vintage 24 Alonso. I would like to see a good bat to be acquired and a lefty reliever. Dont want to give up a good prospect for a rental.
