While his most important job is to handle the pitching staff, the Mets need the long ball from Alvarez, regardless of which part of the field it goes out. He has done a good job throwing down to second but his bat is critical, even if a few other players were not struggling.
Just saw the Yankees cut Cookine Carrasco. Kudos to David Stearns for not signing him when we needed some pitching. Mr. Winker is another example of the dangers of the "other side of 30" and I am still baffled at the extent of hamstring and oblique injuries. What do they pay the training staff to do?
Lastly, on this open thread, today's trivia question is 42 years yesterday, Darryl Strawberry made his Mets debut. He also became the first player in MLB history to play for four specific teams. Name the teams.
I think that spellcheck butchered your question. It currently reads: “He also…to play for four specific teams.” What do you mean by “four specific teams?” Agree w/ your comment about Alvarez and the long-ball and about avoiding Cookie. I was surprised that he signed with anyone. I wish him well in his post-MLB life- he’s a good egg.
The 23 year old Alvarez has career reverse splits..748 against RHP and .656 against LHP whereas Torrens in his career does hit LHP at .737 OPS but had trouble with RHP at 598 OPS. I am not suggesting a platoon but I thought it was interesting. I like Alvarez's new approach and the power will come in time.

That fourth team is a doozy!
Never thought about Straw playing for those teams. NY or former NY. Nice one Steven!
