Wednesday catch-all thread (6/11/25)
Please use this thread all week to discuss any Mets-specific topic you wish.
So much is being made right now about Pete Alonso becoming the Mets’ all-time leader in home runs. While that’s a record that should be celebrated by all Mets fans, there’s something else going on with Alonso right now that’s falling a bit under the radar. And that’s that he’s going to set the team’s single-season RBI record if he stays healthy and anywhere near his current pace in driving in runs.
Normally, that would get a ton of attention. Perhaps another reason that it’s not a bigger deal is that Alonso holds that particular record, set in 2022 when he had 131 RBIs, breaking Mike Piazza’s record of 124 set in 1999 and tied in 2008 by David Wright.
Sure, RBIs are only half a stat - how many opportunities did you have with runners on base? - and we shouldn’t judge someone’s season by how many runs that they’ve driven in. But it is something worthwhile and we should celebrate Alonso’s year if he beats his own team record. Currently, he has 62 RBIs in 67 games. That’s a pretty strong pace, one that ESPN projects him to finish with 150.

We’ve had a fair number of new subscribers here recently and I’d like to welcome each of you to Mets360! One thing that you may not be aware of is that we have Game Chatters for each game during the regular season and playoffs. Metsense has compared the Game Chatters to watching the game at a bar and interacting with friends and strangers. Subscribers can access the chats by clicking on the middle icon - the talk bubble - of the three that are available in the top right of your screen. That will bring you to the list of all chatters, with the most-recent one on the bottom.
We typically have 3-10 people dropping in and out during the game to talk about what’s happening. If there’s only one or two posts in the chatter, leave three or more and it’s likely someone else will join in shortly. For tonight’s game, here’s the direct link. Just click on “Leave a replay” to access it —
Love what Alonso is doing that confirms the Mets' decision in signing him. They'd be looking up at the Nationals without him on the team. Great trivia question Boom Boom and I know the year quite well but will leave this to be answered by others - of course if you were not around for that season you will just Google it anyway. Here is another trivia question for the group - Who was the only person to be in uniform for both the 1969 and 1986 World Series titles?
For those who have never tried the game chat it's a lot of fun and all the responses are current to what is going on in the game, and throw in your two cents.
After the previous three past years of trending downward, Alonso has rediscovered his youth and swing. On June 11th he has a 2.6 fWAR , ninth best fWAR in the National League and second best for the Mets behind Lindor at 2.8 fWAR. If Pete keeps up his pace he'll end up with 41 HR, 150 RBI and 6.2 fWAR. Alonso has revitalize his career.
