In addition to the season record for RBIs, Pete is on pace for like 60 RBIs this month alone (man I really wanted to write that in all caps). That would shatter the previous monthly record which was 34 by Gary Carter in 1985. He is building a superb MVP case if he can keep this going all year.

Other Wed thoughts - I'm very curious to see how many Mets are within striking distance in the fan vote for the all star game when first round numbers get release in a couple of weeks. This is the first time in many years where I've made it a point to vote the maximum amount of times each day (5) and I suspect it's the same for many other fans who have been waiting for strong first halves from Lindor, Pete, and others. Those 2 are locks to make it (and likely to start) but McNeil and Soto are both making strong pushes the last couple of weeks and deserving (Tatis was a lock in RF but he's gone cold. Tucker, Carroll and Pete Crow probably start, but Soto will be a reserve. McNeil's competition is weak and if Mets fans play homer he should have some significant support. Diaz, Garrett, and Senga should all merit consideration - I can see Garrett being overlooked and maybe making it as a replacement for someone who gets injured. Last time Mets had as many as 7 all stars in a single season? That would be never.

Trivia - which Mets team had the most players selected to a single all star game, and who were the players?

Love what Alonso is doing that confirms the Mets' decision in signing him. They'd be looking up at the Nationals without him on the team. Great trivia question Boom Boom and I know the year quite well but will leave this to be answered by others - of course if you were not around for that season you will just Google it anyway. Here is another trivia question for the group - Who was the only person to be in uniform for both the 1969 and 1986 World Series titles?

For those who have never tried the game chat it's a lot of fun and all the responses are current to what is going on in the game, and throw in your two cents.

After the previous three past years of trending downward, Alonso has rediscovered his youth and swing. On June 11th he has a 2.6 fWAR , ninth best fWAR in the National League and second best for the Mets behind Lindor at 2.8 fWAR. If Pete keeps up his pace he'll end up with 41 HR, 150 RBI and 6.2 fWAR. Alonso has revitalize his career.

Pete really needs to step it up! I predicted 175 RBI for him this year and I don’t want to be wrong!

I didn’t want to sign him long term. I felt that the Mets lineup wasn’t flexible enough and Alonso wasn’t really trying “to win at bats” as he said in an interview while he was still in AA. He became HR happy. Also, after they signed Soto there wasn’t much of a better fit in the short term. I just didn’t want another Nimmo contract that was eight years long. I said that FanGraphs gave his free agency projection before the 2024 season at 4/$56 and I felt that was an insult. Also, 3/$80 was a contract that I’d feel better about.
