Wednesday catch-all thread (7/9/25)
Please use this thread all week to discuss any Mets-specific topic you wish.
A lot was made earlier in the year when the Mets played the Dodgers about how many pitchers for L.A. were on the injured list. If memory serves, it was 14 pitchers. Now let’s take a look at the pitchers the Mets have on the IL here right now, shortly before the All-Star break:
Paul Blackburn
Jose Butto
Griffin Canning
Max Kranick
Sean Manaea
Tylor Megill
A.J. Minter
Dedniel Nunez
Brooks Raley
Christian Scott
Kodai Senga
Drew Smith
Danny Young
That’s 13 pitchers, including four that have made starts for the Mets this year, along with one that we hoped would have 15 or more starts and has yet to make one. This list includes six pitchers who are likely done for the season.
The hope is that by the end of July that Blackburn, Butto, Manaea, Raley and Senga will all be back on the active roster. Kranick might be available then, too, but there may not be a space available.
Those counting at home will recognize that leaves one pitcher unaccounted for - Megill. When Jesse Winker was activated from the 60-day IL, Megill took his place on the extended list, which means he won’t be eligible to return until mid-August at the earliest. It’s possible he won’t pitch in the majors the rest of the way, either. You know, if everyone stays healthy and there’s no room. If everyone stays healthy - ha!

If you’re a subscriber, you should participate in the Game Chatters. Last night, I pulled a solo for the first several innings but by the end of the game, there were a bunch of us in there and we ended up with 305 comments. I have a CPL game tonight, so I won’t be there early - hope mine finishes early and I can join late. Hopefully, others will be there right from the start. Here’s the direct link -

It was a sound small ball move but they means they still need to put the ball and play which of course they could not. If the players had better fundamentals, Torrens could’ve just bunted the ball and squeezed a run home. They got lucky that the Brozman was on his game but didn’t you think they would have given Diaz another inning since he only threw 10 pitches?
Pulling for the good Peterson to continue to show up tonight especially with the Phillies three up on the Giants as I write this post.
Jankowski DFA'd, Acuna recalled and Austin Warren recalled for the DH.
