A few days ago, Brian Joura posted a poll asking how the best way for the Mets to add a top-of-the-rotation starter would be, and 73% of respondents said they would rather the team do so through free agency instead of through a trade or international posting.
Good take. I haven’t dug into what FA starters are available beyond the headliners so this is very helpful. My hope/prediction is that they sign one of the top names, sign Manaea, and then have a couple of bets like the ones you’ve mentioned.
Thanks for the thinking on this Joe. Regardless of the big names I hope we can get via trade and FA, the fact is we need pitching pitching and pitching. We will need Stearn’s voodoo to suss out some bargains for the hill to be sure.
I think the Mets are going to sign two free agent starting pitchers that are at least equal or better then Manaea and Severino. For the fifth starter we have Blackburn, Butto and Megill. I don't think Stearns will go for a reclamation project at $10+ m to get another fifth starter but he will try to get a less expensive starter that would compete as the 5th starter. Your suggestion of Soroka and Flexen is good. Michael Lorenzen, Joe Ross and Jose Urena would also be inexpensive candidates.

I think it would be great if we signed Soroka and he came back to relevancy and haunted the Braves, much like TDA did to us with them.
