Despite going 3-12 in their last 15 games, the Mets are the top team in the Wild Card standings and are just one-half game behind the division-leading Phillies.
Glass is always half full as a Met fan. It’s the only way to keep our sanity. Given that we had a disastrous two weeks and are still right near the top of the division, shows they are not struggling alone.
I think there’s room for another option that is not judgmental - realist.
Right now the rotation is a disaster. So is the pen. It is hard to just imagine that the rotation will magically get better with a gimmick or trying harder. I think there is legitimate reasons to be quite concerned about a broken pitching staff. Without real reinforcements, even if that includes promotions from the pipeline with hope one or more can be major leaguers, surviving in good shape looks difficult.
Senga out until? August?
Canning? Done
Megill out until?
Blackburn? Please
Montas? Only time will tell
Manaea? Only time will tell
Holmes? Already guarding IP
As ugly as the hitting is, that seems cyclical and will return.
I'm an optimist but I'm a realist. If Senga and Manaea return and pitch effectively then their rotation will have four effective starters. Bullpen needs help. CF, C and 3B needs an offensive upgrade. The current players at these positions are not performing offensively. They could used some improvements at the trade deadline. Their pitching has got them to where they are, and the pitching success will determine if they will make a playoffs. It will be close but they will manage to make the playoffs.

How long till McClean and Tong get called up? I think after the Yanks series McClean gets the call
Think I heard David Stearns say that Nolan M. will get a promotion once you learn to spell his name.
Part of the problem is that we dont have enough proven talent and the patchwork pitching staff is falling apart.
I was a pessimist before the season, I turned the corner, but after being swept by and drubbed again today 12-1, I am pessimistic again.
First time the Mets lost 3 games in a row by 7 or more runs since.....1962
Can't "like" this but it's a useful tidbit.
